Our Philosophy

We approach each client individually and address all of the factors affecting their lives, not just addiction.

San Cristobal uses a multi-disciplinary team approach to provide accurate assessment and care for young men with chronic and complex disorders most treatment programs refuse to treat. We create an individualized treatment plan for every client that emphasizes the following:

  • Thorough assessment services during orientation.
  • Creation of a treatment plan to address all diagnosed problems contributing to the addiction; quickly re-shape the client’s attitude about recovery; and stop self-destructive behavior.
  • Development of therapeutic relationships with therapists and counselors as well as staff members who serve as mentors and positive male role models.
  • Psychiatric support for diagnosis and medication management.
  • Traditional clinical addiction treatment to assist in fostering self-knowledge and self-care.
  • A positive male-oriented peer culture rich with opportunities to take risks and test self-limits in appropriate, healthy ways.
  • Opportunities to explore areas of personal interest as a means to uncover career options along with ways of having fun without the use of addictive substances.
  • A focus on developing some form of spirituality and on learning the principles of the 12 Steps as an integral part of recovery.
  • Relapse prevention therapy and support.
  • Aftercare planning and support options to ensure smooth transitions to extended-care treatment programs or the outside world.

San Cristobal integrates adult sober living skills into all facets of its recovery program. Core to our philosophy is the belief that successful and sustainable sober living comes through comprehensive programming that treats the whole person. Participation in our program is more than treating addiction, healing the wounds that have led to addiction and learning recovery principles — it is a unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to find direction, meaning and purpose for a new independent and sober adult life.

We also believe that self-knowledge and acceptance serve as fundamental principles for long-term sobriety and contribute to everyone’s ability to lead a happy life. Motivating our clients to help themselves, and giving them the techniques to do just that, ensures that all young men attending our program leave with a “tool chest” for sustainable substance abuse recovery and life rehabilitation. All of our activities, whether therapeutic or recreational, are considered positive forums for growth and development of chemical dependency recovery and attitudes.
